Codi Jordan Interview with Resin Magazine

How old are you?

26

Whats your Musical Backround?

I began playing guitar at Twelve, Wrote my first song at 14. I listened to a lot of CCR Zeppelin, Floyd, Beatles, Crosby Stills Nash and Young with my dad when i was a kid.

How long you been playing?

14 years now.

When did you start playing with this band?

This current group started in March 2008 we have had a couple different drummers and our current lineup switches every now and again. I am honored to have some good people helping me out to make everything happen.

How did you get together with the group you play with know?

The band I play with currently was the backup band for a Local Hip hop artist who calls himself Krisdagong. Kris is the guy who found me and got me into the studio. He basically gave me his band because he decided his show was going to consist of less live instruments and more DJ and computer stuff. Big ups to Kris he got me a record and a band!

What or who are your influences?

I listened to a lot of CCR Zeplin, Floyd, Beatles, Crosby Stills Nash and Young with my dad when i was a kid. More recent: Sublime Slightly Stoopid, Conor Oberst, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Phish, Kings of Leon, Pennywise, NOFX. Dude I could go all day I love music more than anything I try and listen to as much as possible and pull everything I can out of all of it. I am like a music sponge.

What is the writing process?

I usually write two or three songs a week. After that I don't touch them for a couple of weeks. If after all the time passes I find myself singing one of the songs in the shower or something I know I am on to something. I am really into super rememberable hooks.

How long did it take to record the album?

Ha Forever. No it took a little over a year. We had financial issues at first, then once we got rolling we DK ( producer ) and I basically were writing everything from scratch. No samples just all music that we came up with.

How was it financed?

I sold my soul... Ha... I had some supper rad fans get me drunk one night. They told me they would give me the money, I said I don't take money from Friends. They told me they were not my friends! That sealed the deal, ever since then they ( they are a husband and wife ) have become my behind the scenes team they keep track of a lot of the stuff that I would never pay attention to.

Are you working on a second album yet?

I have about 30 Demos on my Macbook recorded. I just have to go back with DK and Figure out which ones to put out next.

How do you describe your own music?

Folk-Hop-Rock

Are you signed?

Hell No, I'm from Utah.

Long term goals for you?

Rule the world, and go on tour with John Lennon after they Stem cell his ass and bring him back to Life.

Any advice for young musicians?

Play One Million Shows and get real good because everyone else is real good.

Favorite place or show you've done? Mandalay Bay Las Vegas with The Expendables. We played at club rain and there where chicks in bikinis dancing in cages, free booze and stuff. That doesn't happen in Utah. Well I take that back we did get a bunch of Chicks dancing up on the bar in Spanish fork Utah not to long ago. Thats the area where they based the movie Footloose on. Rock and Roll and dancing used to be illegal down there! There we were Rockin and Dancin.

Favorite lyrics in a song?

God soooo many, I saw the Eagles last night in SLC. I still love "Shes got a lot of pretty pretty boys that she calls friends." (from Hotel California ) that line just sums up some of the scandalous broads I have dealt with in my day.

Favorite song?

Again Impossible question... Come As you are ( Nirvana )

Any stories or meaning behind any of the songs that you would like to share?

Snow Falls down is a metaphor for being able to feel a loved one who has passed away around you in your day to day life. A lot of people think it is just about the snow or a chick or something, nah... I'm deeper than that. Jimmy Buffets son... I don't wish to actually be blood related to the guy, I have just read a lot about his life style with the margaritas and the beaches boats planes and fishing, it does not sound bad. I got a dad I love him a lot he's the one who played buffet records for me when I was a kid.
